A 2D/3D configurator that sells custom structures in minutes
Designing and quoting a custom structure took days of back-and-forth. We are building the 2D/3D configurator, with a rules engine and AI, that does it in minutes. A big build in progress.
Details anonymized and adapted for confidentiality.
The problem
A manufacturer that designs and sells custom structures. Every client project turns into back-and-forth: a salesperson captures the need, an engineering office draws a variant, prices it, sends it back, the client adjusts, repeat. Days between the request and a serious quote, and every variant ties up an engineer again.
The know-how is real, but it is stuck in a few people’s heads and in files nobody else can handle. The result: a bottleneck on every quote, and no way to scale without hiring.
What we built
A 2D/3D configurator, in the browser, that encodes the manufacturer’s business rules and lets anyone build a valid structure live.
Parametric model - The user composes the structure (dimensions, bays, options) and sees it in 3D in real time. Every choice automatically respects the technical constraints: no impossible configuration slipping through to production.
Rules engine + AI - Design and pricing rules are centralized and applied on the fly. AI helps where a pure rule is not enough: suggest a coherent variant, flag an edge case, speed up scoping.
Instant quoting - The moment the structure is valid, the quote appears: quantities, line items, price. No more round trip through the engineering office for every iteration.
A foundation, not a gadget - Built to become the manufacturer’s core tool, maintained and extended over time, not a throwaway demo.
The result
- From several days to a few minutes between a request and a priced structure.
- Know-how out of people’s heads and into a tool the whole team can use.
- The engineering office freed from repetitive variants, available for the genuinely complex cases.
- A base that scales: more quotes without more engineers.
- The MVP validated the approach in a demo; the full rollout is in progress, a big build.
The stack
- Real-time 2D/3D web configurator (Vite, React, TypeScript)
- Parametric model and centralized business-rule engine
- AI layer for design assistance and edge cases
- Automatic quoting tied to the model
- Architecture built to last and extend, not for a demo
