Structuring a quantity takeoff from plans
An example pipeline that extracts quantities from a plan and flags what needs to be checked.
The scenario
A design office copies items from PDF plans into its spreadsheets and calculation software.
Proposed approach
Read the lines drawn in the PDF plan, recognise scanned text (OCR) where needed and apply trade rules to produce a structured table. Low-confidence areas stay visible and require sign-off by an engineer.
What would be verified
A representative set of plans would let us measure coverage, errors and review time. The tool prepares the work; it does not replace the calculations or the engineer’s responsibility.
